15 Jun June 14th Weekly Devotional
Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13
Paul is content.
He’s not content according to worldly standards. He is content according to the Holy Spirit of Christ that gives him his strength.
Too many times we look to the world for our contentment and strength and reassurance, only to be let down when that STUFF runs out.
The love of Christ never runs out.
Where is our contentment? Where is our focus? Where is our heart?
Paul in 2 Corinthians 11 tells of many things of life he has experienced at the hand of those persecuting him and consequences of the time of him being a missionary for the gospel of Christ.
He had labored abundantly, stripes beyond measure. Forty stripes from the Jews less one on five different accounts. He was beaten with rods three times. He was stoned to the brink of death. He was shipwrecked, constantly travelling, never to rest in one place for too long. Constant peril of the waters, perils of robbers, perils of the Jews and perils of the Greeks.
From all different directions, no matter where life took him, he was getting it from all angles. Perils among false brethren, perils in the city, perils in the wilderness, no sleep, weariness, toil, hunger, thirst, fasting often, cold, naked, but besides all the other things, what comes upon him daily:
His deep concern for all the churches.
Paul places his concern, his desire, his life goal, for the Lord’s church.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33
Do not seek your contentment of the world, from physical things, like the people of the world do.
Seek your contentment from Jesus Christ.
I know it’s a little later than my normal post. But we just got home from 6 days and 6 late late nights at Camp Areopagus.
So in a busy week, seek your contentment from the Savior of the world.
