23 Feb February 22nd Weekly Devotional
For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. John 13:15-17
This is Jesus speaking to His disciples in the upper room. He has just finished washing all of His apostles feet. Judas will soon leave to go and betray Him in the garden. Jesus knows this, and washes his feet anyway.
Just before, He has shared in his last supper with His disciples, and He has instituted His communion that His disciples would take each Lord’s day in remembrance of Him, until our Heavenly Father decides to call us home. Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 11:23-26, Acts 2:42
Jesus is telling His disciples, with this most humble act of servanthood, and all of the other teachings and examples that He has shown His followers throughout His ministry, you KNOW how to be like Me, you KNOW how to BE ME to the world, now go and DO it.
The same is for us as children of God. We have the scripture. The apostle Paul would tell the church at Thessalonica, For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. 1 Thess. 2:13
Now, We know how to be Christ to the world. So let’s go and DO it.
So during this busy week, let’s not be hearers only, but doers of the Word of God.
